work.
im tired. and its only 9pm now. working life is really tiring. im still in the midst of adjusting my body clock.
anw today was a fun day! went around the hospital with our snow white mascots and push carts to promote our service quality campaign. went into all the "access denied" places. interesting! but tiring! walked around the whole hospital the whole day. my legs are nua now.
tml gg do the same things again for other wards and clinics. well at least better than staying in the office. and gg citibank for service quality course tml in the afternoon- meaning no need to work! whheeee! and early dismissal at town area!
thurs gg to MOH to attend some briefing- meaning no work again! wheeehheeehehehehhehe! yes pls send me to more courses and large-scale meetings, so that i wouldnt stay in the office and eat and eat and eat and eat and eat.....
today while i was on my way home.....
saw a husband carrying a baby waiting at the bus stop for his wife. the baby's eyes are filled with anticipation, looking out to spot his mummy. how sweet is that! i guess when the mummy sees the baby, her heart will just melt instantly and her tiredness will vanish imd! the waiting husband and the anticipating baby. sweet!
and while i was walking to my void deck, some weird guy appeared.
guy: hello miss, you looked very familiar (aiyo pls la! this is so old tactic alr!)
me: (looking at him trying to recall do i reli noe him?)
guy: (keep on insisting that he saw me before) dont u rem me? i think i saw u before, really! do u rem me? i think i noe u.
me: erm ok....
guy: do u noe wheres blk 532?
me: walk straight, turn right when u see carpark
guy: i just came frm there. its not there
me: i think its there. u can try to walk further in
guy: ok nvm. thank you (still giving that weird stare. he walked in front of me like 200m apart alr then......... he walked back towards me!)
guy: hi, im XXX (forgot his name). its nice to meet you. whats your name?
me: erm................................ jane (my fake name that i always used!)
guy: oh which blk are u heading towards? maybe its near the blk that i wana go
me: erm.. the blk in front, but its not near your blk (after i said that, i was like WHY DO I ANSWER HIM!?!??!)
guy: ok i go first den. bye.
me: (give him a weird face)
after he walked off, i felt so stupid to have told him which blk i stayed. went walking ard the playgrd downstairs so that he would not follow me into the lift or to find out which floor im staying. when im sure he's not ard anymore, i took the lift, but i pressed on alot more other floors. so that he would not be able to identify the exact floor i stay by reading off the electronic reader on the lift. i changed another lift at another floor to went up to my floor, and saw my neighbour in the lift.
neighbour: hey! what are u doing at this floor?
me: (reli duno wad to say) erm......... im visiting someone at this floor (how stupid is this)
i hate guys who try to jiojio girls in this way. so no class! i will only lay my eyes on those who quietly silently cooly sit one side. hahaha!somemore use such an old tactic! if its some interesting catchy catch up line maybe still can entertain u awhile. oh reminds me of a street surveryor, whom im so impressed by what he said, and i willingly did a survey for him (which my personal policy is not to be stopped on the street to do any survey).
me: sorry i have no time, im in a rush
surveyor: oh thats great! this survey is for those ple who's in a rush!
me: wah. great answer. ok i do for u.
pick up some catchy lines!~

1st day of work
my feet hurt now! killer heels! how am i able to STAND (literally) that for the rest of my working days? would bring a slipper to office once i get my permanent working desk. for now, im a makeshift nomad.
not too bad a day. my dept is reli reli small, with me, oli 5 ple! all ladies! all are rather nice and helpful, so far as of today. the "snobbish" and "mean" boss, actually he not that snobbish and mean la, think he is just try to scare me abit during interview that day.
when i first reached, my boss treated everyone to starbucks! kinda like some part of the dept induction programme. haha. there's indeed still a second chance to "first impression".
went around the hospital TWICE today. i mean the WHOLE hospital. from clinics, to HR dept, to exec office, to A&E dept, CEO COO CFO offices, conference rooms, theatrettes etc, u name it, i went it! think the only place i didnt go is the mortuary. im contemplating to go "take a look" at the mortuary once i get my access pass. would be very interesting eh.
first round was just to walk ard to get familarise with the place. (actually im rather familarised with the place alr, since i worked there for 5 mths before uni starts, but think its only courteous to allow them to bring me ard one more time). for the second round, i disguised myself as the MYSTERY SHOPPER! ok more like mystery surveyor, going into all the differnt clinics to spy on their staff service quality, writing down good and bad comments. pretty exciting, trying to act like im a patient, watching tv in diff depts, observing ple, slacking ard...
hospital is really a place of emotions and where closeness in kinship is being magnified. had a touching moment today when i saw a pair of really old old couple at the geriatric clinic. the husband was on the wheelchair, looking abit retarded ( i mean reli medically retarded) and the wife, pretty fragile herself as well, went to the husband with a hankerchief to wipe his face and serve him a tissue at his mouth for him to spit out some "stuff" (not exactly sure wad stuff tho). this is an evidence of "till death do us part".
but also at the same clinic, i saw a lady (think its the daughter of some old lady), carrying a LV bag, playing PSP and ignoring the mother sitting beside her giving an irritated look and a "dont-bother-me" kinda look on the face.
my heart goes out for the old people. no wonder its so serious that our PM has to bring up this issue at rally.
sitting at the clinics observing the patients and staff is really good. got to come out with some ideas and initiatives. hope to discuss it with boss soon. but there are still lot of things to learn. 80% of the time i duno wad they are talking about. the terms and abbreviations they used. im too noob. really FRESH grad. very fresh from the oven!
ok time to sleep.
i need to adjust my body clock.

new phase of life in 9 hrs' time!
in 9 hrs time marks my 1st official job in the marketplace! went to ttsh for body checkup and tour around the place to re-familarised myself with that place. everytime i go to a new surrounding, i made sure i recce the place first so that i know the place well enuf, this give me a sense of security in an unknown ground.
i went back to the care and counselling (the dept which i used to work as in TTSH 3 years back) and it was so nostalgic! Hanz (my mentor) is still around! and when he was talkin to ther patients, the words that he said sound so familiar to me! cz i almost repeated that to patients everytime everyday when they came in to enquire sth. but most of the ple in the dept have gone. the turnover rate for MSW (medical social worker) is really high as this is a super stress job. promised him to meet him up for lunch soon!
preparing myself mentally emotionally and physically for the new start tml. i just ironed 2 pencil skirts, 5 office pants, 6 office shirts (sweat sweat!). should be more than enuf for the week. got reminded that last time i used to iron my own primary school uniform since p3! i wore pinafore since pri sch to sec sch, so its extremely difficult to iron those pleats and everytime i have to countdown to the number of pleats left to iron (total of 6!). and now when im starting out to work, i iron my own office wear! -sense of achievment and independence!-
being an working adult means....
no more concession pass, more expensive transport fees
waking up early in the morning. no more waking up at 12pm!
sleeping early at night
no more watching of old repeated drama on channel 8 at night!
iron sets and sets of working clothes over the weekends
increment of zone fund!
not much free time to do own stuff and pa-tohing
painful feet in heels
make-up everyday! =( (wake up even earlier!)
having a CPF account! (but lesser take home pay)
saving up for my wedding! =)
more spending power
at the mercy of my boss
no more checking of gmail everyday for job openings!
no more waking up in shock when hp rings, thinking that it would be some call for jobs
less time facebooking!
less time blogging!
lesser use of casual clothes
more deadlines and targets!
gym at minimal fee! whee!
20% discount at kopitiam!
free medical consultation
cheap chalets
half-priced starbucks every last friday of the month for staff! (i look forward to this day so much when i was there last time. the Q is forever long with doctors nurses!)
more opportunities to get to know handsome guys and rich doctors in hospital! =p
and the list goes on and on...
and i wonder how am i still be able to cope with the 3-4 tuitions a week. there goes my weekday night and saturdays.
strength be with me.

job hunt finale 3
continuing the surprise call mentioned in job hunt finale 2..
called back PwC...
me: "hi, so can i noe the details of the new position available?"
lady: "oh.. erm (sounding paiseh and lost for words over the other line) actually theres not a new position. its the orginal position. but now nothing alr, cause just now there might be some changes to the decision.:
me: ............
hello?!?! pls check first and dont give ple false hope like that.
anw still abit apprehensive abt starting work on tuesday. but do i have much of a choice?
ok away from that. lets talk abt Ruth! todays sermon on Ruth reminded me of my grandma! and for the 1st time in church, i prayed for my grandma!
of cz my grandma is not so hip that she calls herself Ruth, but she has all that it takes to be a Ruth. she came from a non-christian family and wasnt a believer before she got married. but since my grandfather's family has a heritage of christianity (my great grandfather was a pastor who started a church in China long time ago! cool isnt it!?!), she believed and became on herself
too. im not exactly sure abt her relationship with her mother-in-law, but she is an awesome wife, mother and grandmother! my mum says she never ever raised her voice at her children (she has 9 of them) and is always very submissive to her husband. she is a simple woman with simplicity of heart. she is always contended with what she has.
what amazed me and touches my heart is her love for God! being a 82 year old lady, she goes to church every sunday without fail! she lives in malaysia in some kampong place where the church there is a few streets away from her house. she would faithfully attend all the events (sometimes she would call and tell us what freebies the church gave her during mothers day, xmas etc) even though she might not understand all of the sermons. the sermon preached in the church is a mixture of my dialect, chinese and some other dialects. she doesnt read the bible cause she is illiterate. but she prays everyday! one time when she was in spore, i asked her how and what does she pray about everyday, and she said that every morning when she woke up, the first thing she does is to pray on her bed! and she would pray for the whole family, from sons to daughters to grandchildren and to great grandchildren, for peace and protection in the family, and salvations to those unsaved in the family! wow! i was so moved when i heard this. sometimes i can have people telling me excuses upon excuses for not coming to services and not disciplining themselves to prayer. but a 82 year old lay does that everyday and every week!
my grandma is such an awesome lady! sometimes when she smiles, i can literally feel that she's a God-sent angel. even though she might look old and have a fragile body, her spirit and the attitude she carries with her sometimes put young people to shame. i love her radiant smile and the moments she laugh out loud showing her beaming rows of dentures. always look forward to her coming to Spore. but its realy quite hard for her to travel 8hrs from home to spore all alone now due to some walking difficulties. =(
i wish she'll be there for my wedding =)

grandma with her spore daughters. middle one is my mum!

laughing away~!

trying to teach her how to do "twist"! so cute!

my family twisting tgt! hahahaha!

muacks! (my hair is really short!)

Matthew 5:3-10 (MSG) The Beattitudes
this will not look familiar to you, the beattitudes but in MSG version. Powerful! i can so relate to verse 3 and 4.
3"You're blessed when you're at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule.
4"You're blessed when you feel you've lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you.
5"You're blessed when you're content with just who you are—no more, no less. That's the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can't be bought.
6"You're blessed when you've worked up a good appetite for God. He's food and drink in the best meal you'll ever eat.
7"You're blessed when you care. At the moment of being 'care-full,' you find yourselves cared for.
8"You're blessed when you get your inside world—your mind and heart—put right. Then you can see God in the outside world.
9"You're blessed when you can show people how to cooperate instead of compete or fight. That's when you discover who you really are, and your place in God's family.
10"You're blessed when your commitment to God provokes persecution. The persecution drives you even deeper into God's kingdom.

job hunt finale 2
just as i was preparing the sermon, which says: "Do you have faith to trust in God's perfect timing?", my hp rang. and it is PwC number! (yesh! its very drama!)
lady: "hi, this is PwC calling"
me: (i was thinking at the back of my mind, that she will say:"sorry, we told you the wrong interview results ytd"
lady: "have you found a job? we want to offer you another position"
me: (WAHH??!??!) "erm not really, but im gg to sign a contract on monday which will bond me for 6 mths. BUT! of cz i would still prefer to work in your company. what is the position available?"
lady: " im not exactly sure, i have to check with my boss"
me: "ok, can u try to get back to me by today?"
lady: "ok, i will call you back later"
me: (whahahahhahahahhhahahaha!)
now im waiting for them to call. i hope its a quite ok position with no interviews required. i alr had 3 interviews with them alr! so im waiting now. excited!
i think God has His sense of humor, doesnt he? but whatever the outcome, whichever the position and company, i give it up to God alr. i have been tru so many emotional hiccups these few days. dun wana pin too much hope on anything still.
God, i totally surrender. You are my greatest asset now. just give me sth which u want me to have =)
waiting for my hp to ring anytime! will update here again!

job hunt finale!
yesh this is the last episode of my job hunt! the finale!
well.. i emailed ttsh and the position is opened, so i took it up. it might nt be the dream job, but i wonder how many graduates actually get theirs at this season. but not a bad position, at least sth which i THINK i will like.
its the service quality department. most of my tasks will be coming up with initiatives to improve the service quality of the hospital (TTSH is right at the bottom of the ranking of all the hospital in spore! think i will have great work to do there).. planning for campaigns and executing it.. approaching marketing companies to work with them to come up with marketing stuff.. going to banks and attend their courses for service improvement.. lots of interaction with doctors nurses and patients and allied health workers.. sounds not too bad la.. nt reli very far from wad i initially wanted. my oli prob here is with the boss. yes that fierce snobbish guy who interviewed me. but he is not my direct boss. he is my boss's boss.
to think of it, i was working at ttsh for 5mths after As before i got into NUS. now im backed there again! can meet up with my old colleagues for lunch! i used to me in the care and counseling dept, working as a social worker assistant (still one of the part time job that im very proud of!).. dealing with all the uncles and aunties, interviewing them.. granting them financial assistance.. and sometimes a few lunatic will come into the office and began to roll on the floor and start laughing out loud.. (this is literally call ROFL!) and i met up with one the oldest woman in spore.. forgot her name tho, that one who helped to build old folks home with all her savings.. and she refused to get financial assistance for her situation as she said there are more needy ple (i reli felt i saw an angel that day when she said in front of me at my interviewing desk!).. and lots of nice and weird ple i met in that dept.
now im back in ttsh doing totally differnt things. think i'll deal with ple more "up" there like doctors and HODs of the hospital. not too bad, i always tot i wanted to work either in a hotel, hospital or airport. so at least im working in a hospital! and its sooooooooo near my place! can reach there within half an hr!
be it if this is THE job or not (oh its oli a 6mths contract), i'l find the fingerprints of God there =)unless they convert me, otherwise i'll be going tru the whole process of job hunting again when cny comes. well, at least i would have a rather good portfolio by then.
i want to go in with the right mind and the right attitude. i believe in any job, there are some personal core beliefs that one has to live up to to make that job more enjoyable. gona pray tru abt it. =)
ok im getting quite excited, im in the real thing now! no more "fake scenerios" like case study, projects, internship, attachment, part-time holiday job, which u can quit anytime u like, but its the REAL THING NOW!
i pray that my colleagues are gona be nice ple to work with. after all the dept is only like 4 persons?!
anyone working nearby? looking for lunch time buddies!
. ' 12:51 AM Y
job hunt 6
if God is collecting my tears, He would have increase His collection these few days. but self-pity is not the way out, so enuf of that! im 4 months nearer to my dream job! =)
just as you thought you graduated from a prestigious university call NUS, and at the graduation ceremony they said "the world awaits", its actually the other way round. You are waiting for the world to come "select" you. just as you tot you have experienced leadership and somewhat know abit abt organising things, planning things, executing things.. you are actually not really something.
the whole experience of job hunting is really a humbling experience for me. i would say my life is smooth-sailing, not much of a failure, in fact no major failure in my life. The only "failure" that i could think of is when i failed my social studies Os prelims by one mark! and i cried buckets that day in school. i have a high expectation on myself and always aim for the very best in terms of studies. somehow whatever i put in, i'll get the results. that explains my straight As in Os and As.
but when it comes to job hunting, the straight As seemed useless when it comes to job finding. whatever i put in is not what i get back! for every interview that i went, i prepared scripts for it! i spent days thinking through abt the possible questions and and research on the company. i memorise them and make sure i wake up an hr earlier to pray before the interview, i made sure i looked the best and dress the best for the interviews! im really trying and doing my best, what do my employers really expect from me? (frustrated!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
after i graduated, it seemed like my life is strucked with what i will term as "failure". 1stly, i failed my basic theory test, then 1st practical test, then the second one again. then whole load of stuff thats going on in the ministry. then now jobless till after all the interviews. to some of u, it might seem "chicken feet", but i would say this is the first taste of failures in my life, and its not that nice.
these failures are like the immunity boost for me as i enter into the marketplace. it might hurt now but they will definitely be useful defences next time. i just got to learn my way and navigate around. moral of story: allow yourself to fail sometimes.
ok all that seemed very demoralising. im fine, pls dun show me any special concern, just be normal, or else i'll justify myself to be in some pity-party.
i'll somehow pick myself up again. from past records, i've always been someone independent and able to get back on my feet kinda person. =) =) =) i might want to hide, to shun, to cry, to wallow, but i know i should not and its no use doing that. it has been my personal belief that "always trust in the wisdom of God's plan". it is still. i want to show the world what is strength.
My strength and my heart might fail but You are the strength of my heart. stay close to Him and nth will go wrong =)

job hunt 5
i rejected ttsh ytd. PwC just called and rejected me today.
oh great.
wasted away 1 mth of waiting.
where to find the courage and motivation to go tru all that searching and interviews again?
6 interviews. some with 2 rounds each.
mostly mean interviewers.
2 offers.
rejected both. 1st was medical sales rep, which im still glad that i rejected it. 2nd was ttsh, regrets, if only they can call me one day later.
get this crap feeling out of me.

job hunt 4 - WARNING! THIS POST MIGHT BE DETERING TO SOME...
just received a mail regarding pwc position. was discouraged after seeing it. not that i got rejected directly but the mail from boss 1 saying: " I suggest to you that you write an email directly to another boss 2 and include- "i might be a bit nervous at the interview and might have say sth incorrectly...."
2 tots came to my mind:
1. did i really say sth wrongly that day? i tot it was a very casual interview and i was very careful with my words and it is one of my best interview that i had.
2. or boss 1 is also as puzzled as me that why am i still not getting the reply and he, being just helpful, suggesting and thinking that it might be that i said sth wrong that day?
just as i was discouraged, feeling lost and wanting to ask for help to phrase my email, got a crap attitude back from someone.
why do i deserve such a treatment? being helpful to everyone else but me.
feel like crap now.
sometimes it feels like just Him and me. as much as people can ask me hows job hunting, thats the most that they can do. i really appreciate the efforts to care but i have been answering so much of these questions that i also sian myself as i repeat all those answers. not that im sian of answering but sometimes i wonder when can i give a different answer? sometimes i feel pointless mentioning about job hunting cz it just seem like a superficial pick-up line to engage into a conversation. try asking me sth else.
if you are thinking if its u that im talking abt, no worries, no particular person in mind (cross my heart! learnt from UP!), but really just some of the inner feelings. im still kind and nice =) just try to change the topic next time when u see me. i'll naturally update if i found a job. =)
ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH................................................................................
tell me that this is pms and not me.

job hunt 3
got offered a position. but im not exactly over the moon.
friday: ttsh called to offer me an executive position. yesh, the position is just titled executive, no specific name or wadsoever. asked me to go for interview in 2 hrs time (what?!) but arranged it to be on monday.
monday 430pm: went to ttsh for interview with deputy director. he is a snobbish guy i would say. he was shaking his leg and pressing his hp before i went into the interview room. he looked fierce and intimidating! he talked sternly and as usual, asked what a mean interviewer would ask. (why is it that interviewers are getting meaner and meaner day by day, from job to job?!)
me: is there a second interview? when can i know the outcome of the interview?
him: that depends on how much you want the position.
me: (alr abit buai tahan him alr) of cause i want this position and this explains why im here!
him: but how much do you want it?
me: (at the back of my mind, was wondering how to answer this kind of question? very much? super much? dying for it? to a very large extent? feel so arghhh... but still, brushed aside all these tots and gave an ok reply) im interested in the job scope which u have described and i see alot of career opportunities and in this position. i would say this position is suitable for me and im suitable for this position.
monday 7pm: (just one hr after i got home) hp rang and hr called. "hi, we want to offer you the position! can you come to work on this thurs?" and she rattles on with all the benefits and welfare. i was like HUH? this thurs? thats very very fast huh.. i was pretty unsure and cold on the other line tho.
so now here i am. abit confused. the job scope here deals with service initiatives in ttsh, much planning and execution of initiatives and events management stuff. and its a new dept with oli 4 ple in the team, which other hospital usually would have 12 ple. still prefer pwc but it is taking years to get back. think will call pwc tml. from my 1st interview with them, to a phone interview, then to a 2nd face to face interview, and now waiting for them to reply, it has been 1 month!
its reli frustrating why employers need to take soooooooooooooo long to release the results! its not reli some prestigious position, why must go tru so many rounds of selection? while others are so desperate to hire you (maybe they have no one wanting the job) which they can confirm you within 3 hrs!
i think they should factor in the time taken for employment in a company to be part of the evaluation of the service quality of the company. they have no right to waste ple's time just like that! (angry!)
if one day i ever become an employer, i will definitely be a nice interviewer and get back to them fast.

桥本木材面包

looks nice and yummy right?!?!?!! i have been thinking about this bread for a few days! and i have to read tru various website in CHINESE (thats not the challenge, the challenge is its in fan ti zhi! -_-) before i found some pictures on it. its a bread which i tried in taiwan and its super-duper-yumilicious! it comes with different flavours like strawberry, kaya, green tea, raisins, and the milk flavour (nai3 su1) is my fav! the 1st photo was a taiwan girl along the night market which willingly and joyfully posed with her bread at her store when we asked for it. i simply love taiwanese! they are forever so warm! anw but cant seem to locate this bread in spore! its actually a japanese product called hashi modo, but when i google it, i found nth about it but ended up finding out a disease called hashimoto -_-"'. anyone knows where to find this bread in spore or any recipe for it??!?!?!?!?! i've been craving for it for days!!!!!!!
oh while im blogging, im searching for its recipe and i found it! but its in chinese again! =( shall consult Mrs Ngo (my mother la!) for help! she is PRO! she used to bake lots of stuff when we were young (that explains my overweight when i was younger! haha)

the baking process
enough about bread. last sunday was water baptism for Li Ao and CSR! refer to fb for photos. really proud of them for making such a faith decision to declare their faith while they are yet young. i always believe that it is a more faith kinda thing to do when u do it before 21 years old. just read sirong's blog and i really proud of her. she is always one of the members whom im v proud of =) regardless of her humble background and inquisitive mind which always question about the faith, she chose to put her trust in God. and she is always a girl with resilience in life and nothing hard or tough will tumble her down. if sr you are reading this now, yesh its u im talking about! continue to study hard but depending on the strength of God! =)
oh! i got reminded that i dreamt about my secondary cg members ytd night! horrible, terrible and vegetable dream! no that will not happen in the name of Jesus! =p
looking forward for dempsey-ing with my tertiaries on saturday! whee!~!~
